Dr Hiten Halai

Dr Hiten Halai

Specialist Periodontist

Hiten Halai is recognised as a specialist in Periodontics (the treatment of gum disease) by the General Dental Council.

During his training in dentistry, Hiten developed a strong vocation for the field of Periodontics (Gum disease). His interest in the field stems from the idea that Periodontology is one of the most fast evolving and most widely researched specialisms in Dentistry. Having completed a doctorate in the field, he has a breadth of knowledge of the emerging links between poor gum health and conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Hiten is dedicated to practicing the latest evidence based dentistry for his patients in a way that is minimally invasive and comfortable. His ethos is to care for each person in a holistic manner, by not only treating their gum disease, but also working with medical colleagues to manage any systemic health issues and minimising the impacts it can cause to an individual’s quality of life.

Like all his colleagues here he is very careful to ensure that all his treatment is carried out painlessly, using very effective local anaesthesia.  He has a kind and gentle bedside manner and his patients find his explanations and instructions easy to follow.

Hiten graduated from Bart’s and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2012. Following this, Hiten worked as a Senior House Officer in Restorative Dentistry at the Royal London Dental Hospital where he gained extensive experience in the management of complex multi-disciplinary cases and developed a strong interest in the field of Periodontics. During this time he also completed the membership exam for the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh (MFDS RCSEd) and the Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Dental Care with Distinction at the University of Kent.

During his training, Hiten has won a number of awards including the British Society of Periodontology (BSP) Audit Award, BSP Clinical Fellowship Award, Queen Mary Postgraduate Research Award and was highly commended for his clinical research through the John Zamet Research Award. Most recently, he has also completed an internship at the renowned Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Forsyth Institute in Boston, USA. He has presented and published his research in national and international conferences and journals.

Aside from private practice, Hiten has sat on various training and professional committees for periodontology in the UK. He has held a research post at Great Ormond Street Hospital and is currently a clinical lecturer in Periodontology at King’s College London.

You can see Hiten for an appointment at the practice on Wednesdays.
