Having overcrowded or misaligned teeth can make a person feel very self-conscious. For those people, orthodontic treatment to straighten their teeth can provide a very welcome confident boost – but the improvements are not limited to the cosmetic: crooked teeth are not only trickier to keep clean, but an uneven bite can put pressure on the jaw, sometimes resulting in headaches and joint pain. By moving your teeth into a better position, orthodontic treatment at our specialist dental practice can effect many positive changes.

Modern braces can be discreet

Mention ‘braces’ to most people and they will picture dark metal wire and brackets spanning the teeth. While this method of ‘fixed braces’ remains the conventional way to straighten teeth, the materials have changed: we offer tooth-coloured brackets and wires which are often preferred by our London patients. Even less noticeable are lingual braces which sit on the back of the teeth. There are also invisible braces, a series of removable clear plastic moulds that, step by step, manipulate your teeth into the desired position. At 76 Harley Street, a London-based specialist dental practice, these and a number of other effective teeth straightening treatments are available.

A consultation is your first step

The type of treatment that is most suited to you will depend on a number of factors: your age, your lifestyle, your objectives – and, crucially, the severity of misalignment. During your consultation, your specialist orthodontic dentist will conduct a thorough examination of your teeth and mouth, enabling them to plan a course of treatment that will help achieve your dental goals.

Depending on the extent of the problem, teeth straightening can be a lengthy process, sometimes taking up to two years. At your consultation, you will be given a clear idea of what the process will involve and when you can expect to enjoy your straightened teeth.
